-This is another attempt from the Pharisees and scribes to find a flaw in Jesus’ speech. Obviously they sent well educated people who could see good true things in Jesus, as well as flaws. -What they saw in Jesus. They knew He was an excellent teacher. They also knew that He was true, He was not faking, He was the real thing. They knew He did not need their opinion or others’. And they also knew He was impartial and that truly taught the way of God. That’s a lot to know of a person. How could they know all that stuff and not fall to His knees in truly repentance and forgiveness of sin. As it is recorded earlier, they were in love with their position, fame, admiration of the people; giving in to the teachings of Jesus was their way to abandon all they cherished the most. Also, all that knowledge of Jesus was in their heads, but they have not truly believed on Him. This is a truly sad and miserable state and it reflects the sentence of the Savior in Mark 4:12 , “so that ‘they may indeed see but not perceive, and may indeed hear but not understand, lest they should turn and be forgiven.’” O Lord, give us eyes to see and perceive, give us ears to hear and understand. -A tricky question and an outstanding answer. This question, coming from a new true believer would be understandable. The Bible tells us we should honor our authorities, and paying taxis is under the laws of authorities. But the question turned to be evil for these men because of their motivation, their internal desire to find flaw in Jesus and destroy Him. So, a good thing could be turned into evil for its motivation. But Jesus, being the owner of moneys, kings, and kingdoms is not interested in our money that comes from Him, He wants our hearts that belongs to Him. I think that’s the reason why He says, “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” In fact, God does not want anything from us that come from a heartless intention. He wants our greatest emotions and longings, because ultimately He created them in us to enjoy Him forever. Make us, o Lord, to give You our hearts and our most sincere affections and longings.

Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?
¿Es lícito pagar impuesto al César, o no?
Should we pay them, or should we not?"
¿Pagaremos o no pagaremos?
But, knowing their hypocrisy, he said to them,
Pero El, dándose cuenta de su hipocresía, les dijo:
"Why put me to the test?
¿Por qué me estáis poniendo a prueba?
Bring me a denarius
Traedme un denario
and let me look at it."
para verlo.
questionanswer
And they brought one.
Se lo trajeron,
And he said to them, "Whose likeness and inscription is this?"
y El les dijo*: ¿De quién es esta imagen y la inscripción?
They said to him, "Caesar's."
Y ellos le dijeron: Del César.
Jesus said to them, "Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's."
Entonces Jesús les dijo: Dad al César lo que es del César, y a Dios lo que es de Dios.
And they marveled at him.
Y se maravillaban de El.
