-Jesus asks His disciples not to tell anyone what they had seen. He reveals His plans and purpose to anyone He wills because He is sovereign, and at the same time He is good choosing some to do so. They obeyed the command but they were puzzled about what it meant to rise from the dead and the transfiguration they just saw. By the question that arose among the disciples we can see the clear connection between that event, that is, the transfiguration, and the resurrection of the Messiah and ultimately the resurrection of every believer in Jesus Christ. So they connected what they saw and what they knew about the prophecy of the Messiah. They asked, “Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?” -Jesus answers that Elijah must come to restore all things. What does that mean? I’m under the impression just looking at the text that something was built and destroyed or abandoned and needed someone to restore it to its original state. The prophets set the foundation but unbelief destroyed it and the matter was abandoned until Elijah was sent to restore faith. We know for sure who Elijah is. It’s John the Baptist, sent by God to prepare the way of the Messiah. That’s why Jesus concludes, “But I tell you that Elijah has come, and they did to him whatever they pleased, as it is written of him.” -It is so good to know that God is in control. His death and resurrection are not a plan B. They are the wise and good plan of God. Everything was planned to its due time and it became to pass in His time and according to His will. He sent Elijah to prepare His way. He revealed His plan to whomever He pleased and in time He pleased. In a few weeks He was about to deliver Himself up for His people according to His divine plan. Nothing was going to escape of His divine control. He is God. -Jesus, let us see your transcendence and your infinite wisdom behind your plan and everything that happens to us today.
