-Jesus came to Jerusalem and as He was used to immediately He entered the temple, for it was imperative for Him to be in the house of His Father (Luke 2:49). This is a proof He was the Messiah, and no one else; as the hardened Jews still believe the Messiah is to come, because it was prophesized that the Messiah was to enter the temple, ad so He did. Contrary to what some Jews think, it is futile to still wait for the Messiah since there is no temple anymore. Jesus is the temple. Malaquiah 3:1-3 says, “Behold, I send my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me (talking about John the Baptist). And the Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple; and the messenger of the covenant in whom you delight, behold, he is coming, says the Lord of hosts. But who can endure the day of his coming, and who can stand when he appears? For he is like a refiner’s fire and like fuller’s soap . He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and he will purify the sons of Levi and refine them like gold and silver, and they will bring offerings in righteousness to the Lord.” What this prophesies is talking about? It’s telling us that the Messiah (1) will come to the temple and (2) will purify and refine the sons of Levi so that they could bring offerings in righteousness. That’s exactly what our Lord did when He came to the temple. He overturned the tables of the money-changers and seats of those who sold pigeons and said, “You have turned my house into a den of robbers. And to whom was he speaking? Verse 18 says that the chief priests and scribes heard him and were seeking a way to destroy Him. They wanted to destroy Him because they feared Him. But they did not fear Him in the good way, but in the sense that they hated Jesus because He was astonishing people with His teaching. They hated Him because He was competition. -Thank you, great Lord of hosts, for fulfilling your promise of the Messiah in Jesus. Thank you for refining our heart so that we could bring offerings of righteousness before you. Yours is the glory, ours the gratitude.
