-John is showing something we all cherish in our hearts—that selfishness that lead us to find others’ behavior, even good deeds, wrong. We tend to underestimate and criticize other brethren who love Jesus and are working for God’s kingdom, for they are not doing their stuff our way. We have such a high standard for others, but it is not the same story for us. We tend to exaggerate in our minds our poor intentions and actions, making ourselves believe we are working more than we should. But who can say that is doing enough. Nevertheless we judge other’s intentions and actions as mediocre, and never are good enough for our standards. O God, have mercy on us. -God is impartial and He is the One to judge, who is in the position to judge. However, we see in the text that His spirit is not critical, but merciful. He is willing to reward, to sympathize and think constructively about others. May we follow His example. We cry, “Help our unbelief.”
