Q: What does πᾶσα πατριὰ refer to and why does Paul add in the phrase ἐξ οὗ πᾶσα πατριὰ ἐν οὐρανοῖς καὶ ἐπὶ γῆς ὀνομάζεται? I understand Paul to be refering the enire family of the redeemed, both Jew and Gentile. This seems to be the most compelling argument from the context. In light of the massive realities of Jew and Gentile now made one new humanity through the gospel it is fitting for Paul to open his prayer with this reminder of who God is. At the offset of his prayer he seems to be setting before them a massive vision of God by again riviting his readers attention on the God who unites peoples who were at total emnity with God and each other through the cross. I was surprised that Hoehner did not even mention the possibility of πᾶσα πατριὰ being translated as "whole family." He also dismissed the argument from context quite quickly.
On account of this reason (namely, the mystery of the gospel which just explained,) I bow my knees [in prayer] to the Father from whom the whole family in heaven and on earth is named,
In order that he may give to you to be strengthened with power
accroding to the riches of his glory through/by means of his Spirit in the inner man,
actionmanner
(with the result) that Christ may dwell in your heart's thorugh faith,
in order that you, [ since ] you have been rooted and established in love,
may have power to grasp with all the saints what is the length and breadth and length height and depth
inference
to know the surpassing knowledge love of Christ

so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
(Considering all the glorious things that I have spoken thus far and concerning the goal of all my doctrinal instruction and prayers for you...) -- Now to the one who is able to do super-abundantly above all things which we ask or imagine
accroding to the power that works within us,
to him be glory
in the church and in Christ Jesus unto all generations now and forever, Amen.
