5 ἡμεῖς γὰρ πνεύματι ἐκ πίστεως ἐλπίδα δικαιοσύνης ἀπεκδεχόμεθα. Galatians 5:5 SBL My translation: 5 For through the spirit from faith we eagerly await the hope of righteousness. Word Study- πνεῦμα In Galatians there are three uses of πνεῦμα and we see each of these in chapter 6: 1) The manner in which an action is done: 1 Ἀδελφοί, ἐὰν καὶ προλημφθῇ ἄνθρωπος ἔν τινι παραπτώματι, ὑμεῖς οἱ πνευματικοὶ καταρτίζετε τὸν τοιοῦτον ἐν πνεύματι πραΰτητος, ... Galatians 6:1 SBL 1 Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness ... Galatians 6:1 ESV Note also in this same verse an occurrence of the adjective πνευματικός ("spiritual"), referring to spiritual people: 1Ἀδελφοί, ἐὰν καὶ προλημφθῇ ἄνθρωπος ἔν τινι παραπτώματι, ὑμεῖς οἱ πνευματικοὶ καταρτίζετε τὸν τοιοῦτον ἐν πνεύματι πραΰτητος,... Galatians 6:1 SBL 2) The inner life of a person: 18 Ἡ χάρις τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ μετὰ τοῦ πνεύματος ὑμῶν, ἀδελφοί· ... Galatians 6:18 SBL 18 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit , brothers. ... Galatians 6:18 ESV 3) The Holy Spirit: 8 ὅτι ὁ σπείρων εἰς τὴν σάρκα ἑαυτοῦ ἐκ τῆς σαρκὸς θερίσει φθοράν, ὁ δὲ σπείρων εἰς τὸ πνεῦμα ἐκ τοῦ πνεύματος θερίσει ζωὴν αἰώνιον. Galatians 6:8 SBL 8 For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.
