The natural flow of this passage is thanksgiving, intercession, and an eschatological climax. I understand the main point to be the content of Paul's intercession found in vv. 18-19a. That which precedes and follows this heart is in support of what Paul prays. Namely, the content of his prayer for the church "to know...." is because he heard of their faith in Christ, gave thanks, and interceded for them to receive spiritual wisdom and revelation from the Father of glory (1:15-17). And namely, the ground of this content is because of the work God has accomplished in Jesus Christ in the gospel and its telos which is to come.
