Central Idea: "The LORD Is With You!" Summary: God will never leave or forsake you. It is unbreakably true because He said so. This truth is the foundation for our attitudes, dissolving fear and securing contentment: No Fear: God is with us; not without reason, but to aid us; and if to aid us, who can hold us back; and if none can hold us back, whom shall we fear? Contentment: God is with us; not our least satisfying "possession" but our greatest; and if our greatest, then we are continually content with our current "possessions"; and if content, then there is no longer room or motive for greed and love of money. Cross References: 1. No fear. "God is with us and is our Helper" appears to be the biblical basis for no fear: Is. 41:10 "Fear not, for I am with you...I will help you..."; Is. 43:5 "Fear not, for I am with you..."; Ps. 23:4 "Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me..."; Ps. 46:1-2a "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear...". 2. No fear of opponents. The basis of "What can man do to me?" is "The LORD is my helper", as noted in Romans 8:31b, "If God is for us, who can be against us?" Our lack of fear before opponents is a clear sign of God delivering us, as in Php 1:28: "and not frightened in anything by your opponents. This is a clear sign to them of their destruction, but of your salvation, and that from God." Personal Thoughts: I've been struck with the repeated emphasis by God not to fear since He is with me. His greatness and salvation must look glorious when one of His kids walks continually without fear. As I've been dwelling on this, I've been noticing I fear/am anxious about a lot: meeting deadlines at work, whether I'll succeed at my job and enjoy it, whether family dynamics will work out, my wife's reaction to things, will I get to do the things I'm subconsciously desiring, my lengthy To Do list... It's been harder than I thought to let faith in "God is with me" and "The LORD is my helper" to uproot my fears.
