Devotional: Many times I am caught wanting to only hear the word of God but not do what the Word says. I am tempted to not love God or love my neighbor and this is destructive, especially for someone like me, because it tempts me to become someone who is proud and does not consider others before myself. I catch myself many times wanting to learn the Word in an intellectual way but never letting it sink into my heart and convict me of the sin that I have. When I try to learn the word intellectually without letting it convict me, it shows that I use the word for my own desires and needs, making me proud, which is not what the word is for. Thank God that the Holy Spirit convicts me of sin and makes me look further than just myself. No, the word of God convicts me to say that if I am a believer in Christ, I am also to show love towards God and love towards my neighbor. And when the Spirit moves me to do these actions, I am convinced that what I do is pure religion that not only changes my mind but changes my heart to love God and others. To be a doer of the Word.

Main point summary
A hearer of the word only is a proud person who desires his own needs but a doer of the word requires a humble person who desires the things of God; to never think about himself but to love others and love God (set apart from sin)
