Love for one another - The Main Point! (7a) Love for one another is proof of the New Birth, and of knowing God because Love is inherent in God's nature. (7b-8) Love for us was God's motivation for doing what it took to give us new life through Christ. (9) God showed His Son-sending, life-giving love to a world that didn't love Him; to a world deserving of His wrath and condemnation. (10) Our love for one another is based on God's love for us and in God's purposes in loving us. (11)

Beloved, let us love one another,
for love is from God;
and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.
inference
The one who does not love does not know God,
for God is love.
ground
negativepositive
By this the love of God was manifested in us,
that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world
so that we might live through Him.
actionpurpose
ideaexplanation
In this is love,
not that we loved God,
but that He loved us
and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
progression
Beloved, if God so loved us,
[then] we also ought to love one another.
conditional
No one has seen God at any time;
if we love one another,
[then] God abides in us,
and His love is perfected in us.
