Philippians 2:1-4
So if there is any encouragement in Christ,
any comfort from f love,
any g participation in the Spirit,
any h affection and sympathy,
i complete my joy
by being j of the same mind,
having the same love,
being in full accord
and of one mind.
Do nothing from k selfish ambition or l conceit,
but in m humility count others more significant than yourselves.
Let each of you n look not only to his own interests,
but also to the interests of others.
This is not as if Paul was not sure if they had benefited from Christ, rather he knew the benefits. Paul seems to be using 1a-1d as a grounds for the call to humility in the next verses.
The manner in which Paul's joy will be completed is ultimately unity among believers.
Whether this one is action-manner or id-expl could be debated. There are three commands in this passage: complete, Do, and let. I think that "do" and "let" are subordinate to the "complete" phrase and, also, that their idea expresses more of a manner than an explanation. I think that Paul ultimately wants unity and the only way that he sees this as possible is through humility and serving.
