Romans 1:1
esv
mine
Paul, a a servant 1 of Christ Jesus, b called to be an apostle, c set apart for the gospel of God,
Paul, an apostle of Jesus for the gospel; to the saints in Rome; grace and peace.
1:1-7
First, I thank God because of your far-reaching faith; for I pray that I might come to you to share the gospel.
1:8-15
For I am not ashamed of the gospel because it is the power of God for salvation by the righteousness of God through faith to everyone.
1:16-17
For the wrath of God is revealed against the wicked who suppress the truth of God and exchange it for idolatry
1:18-23
Therefore God gave them up to lust, then to homosexuality, and then to a debased mind.
1:24-32
inference
Therefore, you who judges, since you do the same things will also be judged because God is impartial.
2:1-11
Everyone will be judged according to what they have been given.
2:12-16
ideaexplanation
You who boast in the Law dishonor God by breaking it.
2:17-24
The uncircumcised who keep the Law will condemn you that are circumcised but break it
2:25-29
actionresult
Then the advantage of the Jews is that they were entrusted with the words of God, but God remains faithful and just to punish them for their unfaithfulness
3:1-8
Therefore, no one is better off because all are under the power of sin, as it is written
3:9-18
Now the Law speaks so that all are guilty before God
3:19-20
But now, the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the Law through faith in Jesus.
3:21-26
Therefore, there is no boasting because God only justifies by faith, which upholds the Law
3:27-31
Therefore, Abraham and David were justified by faith without works.
4:1-8
Therefore, since Abraham was before the Law, he an example of righteousness by faith without circumcision
4:9-12
For it is those who have faith who are to be heirs of the world
4:13-15
ground
For this reason, just as Abraham trusted God to do the impossible, righteousness will be reckoned to us who trust in God who raised Jesus.
4:16-25
negativepositive
Therefore, we have peace with God and we boast in our sufferings which ultimately produces our hope of sharing the glory of God.
5:1-5
For, if while we were weak, sinners, enemies Christ died for us, how much more, now justified and reconciled, shall we be saved from wrath and boast in God.
5:6-11
Consequently, death spread to all people because all have sinned
5:12-14
But the free gift is not like or like the effect of the one tresspass-the trespass brought death and condemnation; the free gift broath abundant life and justification.
5:15-17
So, then, just as the one man's sin led to condemnation and declaring sinners, so one man's obedience lead to justification.
5:18-19
just as increasing sin reigned in death, so abounding grace might reign for eternal life
5:20-21
series
Then, we who have died to sin have been united with Christ in his death and life in order that we might walk in newness of life.
6:1-5
We have died with Christ so that we should no longer serve sin.
6:6-11
Therefore, do not obey sin's passions or use your body for sin, but present yourself alive and your body for God.
6:12-14
Then you should not sin because you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.
6:15-20
So, the advantage of your sinful life was death, but now being enslaved to God, it is eternal life.
6:21-23
A person is only bound to the law as long as they are alive just as a woman can marry again when her husband dies.
7:1-3
In the same way, you have died to the law through Jesus so that you might live a new life in the Spirit.
7:4-6
comparison
Then, the Law is not sin for it teaches me what sin is, but sin used the Law to provoke me unto death.
7:7-12
Then, it was sin that produced death in me and not the good Law in order to fully show sin, which dwells in me.
7:13-20
So then, I serve the law of God with my mind, but my flesh is bound to serving sin.
7:21-25
There is therefore now no condemnation for those living in the Spirit and not the flesh, for God through Christ fulfilled the law's demands.
8:1-4
For setting the mind on the flesh produces death and will not please God, but setting the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.
8:5-8
However, you are in the Spirit, so you will be raised to life since the same Spirit raised Christ
8:9-11
So then, we are not debtors to the flesh, for we are adopted sons, therefore heirs, of God through the Spirit,
8:12-17a
provided that we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified in him.
8:17b
For our present sufferings will not compare to our future glory, for creation will be set free when our hope of adoption is obtained.
8:18-25
Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness because God knows the Spirit who intercedes for us, and they work all things for our glorification.
8:26-30
conditional
Then, nothing can condemn us or separate us from the love of God in Christ.
8:31-39
I speak the truth that I have great anguish for I wish I could be cut off for my kinsmen, the Israelites.
9:1-5
But the word of God has not failed, for the children of the promise are the true Israel.
9:6-13
There is no injustice on God's part; for he has mercy on or hardens whomever he wills.
9:14-18
He still finds fault, even though no one can resist his will because the potter has the right make his clay for an honorable or a dishonorable use.
9:19-23
Even us Gentiles as he says in Hosea.
9:24-26
And Isaiah says about Israel, "Only a remnant will be saved," and, "The offspring has prevented its total destruction."
9:27-29
Then, the Gentiles attained righteousness by faith, but Israel did not because they pursued the Law.
9:30-33
I pray that they may be saved for they have a zeal for God, but it is not according to God's righteousness. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.
10:1-4
For Moses writes about righteousness based on the law that the person who does the commandments shall live by them, but righteousness based on faith is near everyone; for everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
10:5-13
Then, to call needs faith; faith needs hearing; and hearing needs the word of Christ
10:14-17
But, they have heard for their voice has gone out to all the earth
10:18
But they should have understood since the Gentiles understand, but Israel is stubborn.
10:19-21
Then, God has not rejected his people, for I am a saved Israelite. Just as there were righteous people during Elijah's time, so now there is also a remnant.
11:1-6
Then, the elect obtained what it was seeking, and the rest were hardened
11:7-10
So, they did not stumble that they might fall; rather through their trespass salvation has come to the Gentiles, so as to make Israel jealous.
11:11
Now, if their failure was this good, how much better will their inclusion be!
11:12
Then, I am an apostle to the Gentiles to make the Jews jealous.
11:13-15
If root is holy so are the branches, but you granfted in branches should not be arrogant because if God didn't spare the natural branches, neither will he spare you, and they can still be grafted back in.
11:25-32
A partial hardening has come upon Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in, and thus all Israel will be saved.
11:25-32
Oh, how cool is God's plan!!
11:33-36
concessive
Therefore, I appeal to you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice and do not be conformed to the world, but renew your mind.
12:1-2
For I say to everyone to think soberly about themselves; for we are one in Christ and individually members with differing gifts.
12:3-8
actionmanner
Love one another
12:9-13
Bless everyone, and overcome evil with good.
12:14-21
Be subject to the government because they are in place by God, and pay to everyone what is due to them.
13:1-7
Owe no one anything but love, because love is fulfilling the Law.
13:8-11
Besides this, put on Christ and not the flesh because the day is even nearer.
13:11-14
progression
Welcome the weak because people have different convictions about what they can eat.
14:1-4
Let all be fully convinced themselves, as long as they are honoring the Lord
14:5-9
We don't live or die to ourselves, because Jesus is Lord of life and death
14:10-12
Do not judge your brother, because we will all be accountable to God, instead never cause your brother to stumble.
14:13-19
The kingdom of God is not about eating and drinking, so do not destroy the work of God over food
14:20-23
May God grant you to seek the pleasure of your neighbor above your own, in accordance with Christ.
15:1-7
Therefore, welcome one another, just as Christ has welcomed everyone into the promise.
15:8-13
I can boast that I have fully proclaimed the gospel from Jerusalem to Illyricum; thus I want to go where no one has laid a foundation.
15:14-21
This is why I have not come to you yet; however, I am now going to Jerusalem to relay resources, then I will come to you
15:22-29
Pray that I will be safe in Judea so that I can come to you.
15:30-32
I commend to you Phoebe and greet many people whom I know and love
16:1-2
Watch out for those who cause dissension, for I want you to be wise and guileless. God will soon crush Satan under your feet.
16:3-16
Some here greet you. Now to God, through Jesus, be glory forever! Amen.
16:17-27
