A promise of a better covenant Background: God is announcing the coming judgement (Jer 4:6) because the people of Israel and Judah broken the covenant of God (11:8) Passage outline God's coming covenant (v31) A new covenant made with all Israel and Judah God contrasts the old covenant (v32) Not like the Mosaic covenant (v32a-b) The one they transgressed which resulted to their punishment God clarifies the new covenant (v33-34) In this new covenant God will be their God and He will be their people Because God will put His law in them and on their hearts (Obedience from the heart) Because God will forgive their sins that separated and continued to separate them from Him Application: Head: The coming of the new covenant was ushered in by Christ's death and resurrection, It is also expanded to the gentiles who are grafted in (Eph 3:6) called the true Israel of God (Gal 6:16), So that all both Jews and Gentiles share in this blessing of the new covenant the moment they put their faith in Christ Jesus who is the guarator of a new and better covenant. Heart: Like the Jews who heard this prophecy we must be encouraged that even though trials and tribulations will come in this life we have hope in the finished work of Christ who will not break His covenant. Hands: When troubles, trials and tribulation come, and we are tempted to doubt God's goodness let us look at the covenant of God ratified in the blood of Christ through whom we have the forgiveness of sins and by whom we have the Spirit of God living in us to remind us of His law and statutes.
