Outline: Question (7a-7b) Explanation (7c-11) Conclusion (12) Main point: The Law does not produce sin but reveals the sin already in the heart. Introduction: As the sun rises, we slowly see more and more details of the world around us. The brighter the heat and light of the sun the more we see the things around us. C.S Lewis once said, I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else. - C. S. Lewi s Similar is the work of God's the Law in the hearts of men, The more we understand the standard of God The more we see how far we have fallen short of it The more sin in us rises up to rebel against it. Many people today do not have the right view of the law of God, they think it is narrow and outdated. Has little to no use for today Christians: It is only applicable for the OT Their verdict: Do away with the law! The Question This might be the sentiment of Paul's anticipated question to his teaching on the law. If this is what the does then we might be tempted to think that the law is evil. - "Is the law sinful?" Romans 7:7 Is the law sinful because it causes men to sin? Is God wrong to give something that causes men to sin? The Explanation: Paul start with a denial of the very thought that sin is evil. Because man is evil, he has no power to keep the law nor has he any desire to obey the law. The law then is a tool that God uses to expose the sin in the heart of man. Paul uses his own example of how covetousness (Wanting what God has forbidden) He cannot escape the sinful desires of His heart no matter how good he looked on the outside. The law that he thought would bring him life only brought him death and condemnation Conclusion Paul the concludes that far from being evil "the law is holy, righteous and good" It is God's tool to reveal and expose sin. Therefore, the problem is not the law but the man who is incapable of keeping it. Head: Every Christian must affirm what Paul here concludes that the law is good 7 The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; Psalms 19:7 ESV (-) Many people think Christianity is about doing whatever you want to do (Free from the responsibility of the law) (+) But Christianity is freedom to finally keep the law in the strength that the Spirit supplies. Heart: Have you ever come to see how sinful you really are in light of God's law? Can you saw with Paul that the law killed you that is it rendered you totally helpless and hopeless for salvation. If yes, have you come experienced the forgiveness that is available in Jesus? His arms are open to accept all those who have come to see themselves as sinners condemned by the law and are totally "poor". Have you been clothed with His righteousness and made new? Hands: The Law is Holy and good, and as Christians we are supernaturally enabled by the Holy Spirit to live a life worthy of God, that is walking in obedience to His commands. Let the law of God guide your way of life as you seek to live out the reality of your salvation.
