v. 13a NET takes being sober minded as manner of getting your minds ready for action. ESV takes it as 2 ways on how to set your hope fully on the grace. v. 13b ESV and NET maintains the participle nature of being sober. in NASB they added in spirit to tell the readers in what aspect should one be sober. *NET puts and as conjunction between get your minds ready and set your hope as if these are 2 commands.
What does preparing your mind for action means? (girding up the loins of your minds) Minds cannot act physically so why say you have to prepare your mind for action? Possible interpretation: Meaning having a mind that is able to give an answer to anyone who ask about the hope you have. (1 Peter 3:15)
v. 13c NET translates the genitive revelation of Jesus Christ as objective genitive. Christ is the one who is revealed.
What does the genitive revelation of Jesus Christ means? Possible answers: Objective genitive- Christ the one being revealed. Meaning when he returns again.
In Greek it is in genitive: Persons of obedience They all translated it as attributive genitive. just as there are sons of disobedience in Ephesians, here it talks about sons/persons of obedience.
In Greek conformed is a participle.
In Greek having called you
v. 18a NET makes 18a as new sentence. ESV and NASB maintains the participle knowing.
v. 20a All 3 translation forms this as new sentence even though in greek, it's still part of a long sentence
What does it mean that Christ was foreknown even before the foundation of the world?
v. 22d NET starts a new sentence. v. 22 and23 are just one sentence.
NET starts a new sentence in 23a.
v. 25 b NET does not contain the last sentence in other translation.
HEAD What does this passage teaches me about God: God is Holy. (v. 15a, 16c) God is a just God. There is no partiality in him. (v. 17a) God is gracious and merciful to give Jesus as ransom to save me from my futile ways. (v. 17,19) God is powerful and life- giver. There is no impossible for Him. He is able to save people and even raise people from the dead. (v. 21) God is sovereign. (v.20) He is able to foreknow and made manifest whatever he wants and whenever he wants. God has no beginning. (v. 20) being able to foreknow Christ before the foundation of the world just means that He is not bounded by time. What does this passage teaches about man prior to conversion: Man is in state of rebellion. They are sons of disobedience. (v. 14) Man is unholy. (v.15) Man is living with no reverence to God. (v.17) Man is in need of a Savior. (v. 18) Man is faithless and hopeless. (v. 21) Man needs to be born again in order to be able to love from a pure heart. Man needs their soul to be purified. (v.22) We need the blood of Christ for our salvation. What does this passage teaches about man after conversion: They are now called sons of obedience. They are now able to love others genuinely. They are sojourners. What does this passage teaches me about sin: A man sins because of his ignorance to the truth (v. 14). What does this passage teaches me about the Word of God: The word of God is everlasting. In light of all these truths seen in this passage, it's now clear how important it is that I should fill my minds with these truths and rely on them in order to be able to do these 4 commands of Peter. That way, Satan won't be able to deceive me with his lies. Always preach the gospel to yourself not because you will lose your salvation but because we always forget the works and glory of God, the gospel and his word.
HEART What does this passage wants me to feel? It teaches me to love others and God unhypocritically.(v. 22) To live my life with fear in God. (As children fears his father) It teaches me to hope and trust in God's grace. It teaches me to have a submissive/humble heart for God is our final authority. (as child submits to his father) It teaches me not follow the passions of my former self. (v. 14b) My new passion should be is to live a holy life. How should I feel differently about myself: I should always fear God all throughout my life. Now that I consider myself a child of God, I should feel fear in the sense of I don't want to displease my Father in heaven. I should feel hopeful always. The passage taught me to love others with a sincere heart. How should I feel differently about God/Christ: Reading this passage makes me feel grateful to Christ for saving me from my futile ways by shedding his own blood on the cross. I was reminded by this passage to always set my hope on the grace found only in Jesus Christ. Since the word of the Lord abides forever therefore I can always rely and trust in His word at all times. What emotions does this passage exhort me to feel: This passage teaches me to put my hope fully on his grace. These commands are truly hard to do if I will just rely on myself. I believe I wouldn't even have the desire to obey and desire God if not for his grace and mercies. That's why I thank God for giving me a new heart, for cleansing my soul from all my unrighteousness. Having been born again enables me to love God and others genuinely. I can fix my hope in God, in his grace, in his words, in his Son Jesus Christ for they are everlasting and is able to save a sinner like me.
HANDS How should I act differently because of what I've read in the passage? As a child of God, I should conduct all aspect of my life in way that reflects the holiness of God, my Father. The salvation I have received from God is not cheap. It was paid by the precious blood of Christ. And so, it is only right that I should live in a way that shows how precious Christ is and is our salvation. What motivations does this passage give for acting differently ? God is a holy God and as a holy God, He definitely abhors sin. (v. 16) God is a just God and He judges impartially. God will weigh our every deed. (v. 17) God's word is abiding and everlasting and so we can rely on it at all times and in all kinds of situations. (v. 23) God paid the ransom we ought to pay by the precious blood of Christ. Which means that the salvation I received is not cheap. (v. 18) Obedience to the truth can sanctify us. (v. 22) What sin do I need to repent of and put off? I should repent of the former passions of my flesh now that my heart is renewed. I should repent of the times I'm living my life with no regard to the holiness of God. I should ask for forgiveness to God for the times I am not loving to others and the times that I did not grab the opportunity to preach the gospel. What good works do I need to put on? I should be loving to others. Having a renewed heart enables me now to love others sincerely. I should share the gospel of Christ to others as a sign of my love to them for only through Christ we can find salvation. God revealed Christ to us now, and so i t would be a privilege for me to be used by God if I am to proclaim Christ to others for them to know Him also.
Firstly, set your hope completely on the grace, and be holy in all your ways because god is holy, more than that live your lives with fear in Him because Christ died for your sake. Lastly, love one another sincerely because you have been born by the gospel.

(v. 20) The word of God is everlasting. (v. 23, 25) Takeaways: I ought to set my hope FULLY on the grace found in Christ. Upon studying this passage, the Lord is teaching me to be holy in all of my conduct. Just like how a child reflects his father in his conduct so it is with the Lord. So as a child of God, I should aim to reflect my Father's glory, his holiness and graciousness to me. One way for me to show it would be by proclaiming Christ for others to know Him also. Another way is by loving others, because it shows that I now have a renewed heart (been born again). I should proclaim the gospel as a sign of my genuine love for them because it is only through the gospel one can be born again.

I should proclaim the gospel as a sign of my genuine love for them because it is only through the gospel one can be born again. I was reminded of the passage in Ephesians, in Colossians, in Philippians, 1 Thessalonians that says to live in a manner worthy of the gospel. I should live all aspect of my life in a manner that would show the precious value of the gospel. The salvation that we received from God through the gospel was paid by the precious blood of His Son Jesus Christ and so it is not cheap. Reference: ( Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ , so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel, (Philippians 1:27 ESV ) ( I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, (Ephesians 4:1 ESV ) (so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord , fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God. (Colossians 1:10 ESV ) (we exhorted each one of you and encouraged you and charged you to walk in a manner worthy of God , who calls you into his own kingdom and glory. (1 Thessalonians 2:12 ESV )
