Passage Commentary:: (soon to follow) Arc Commentary:: One of the clearest and most important relationships in this passage is the initial word of praise and how it is grounded by all that follows. If one gets that relationship then one gets Paul's main point. The other initial relationship that is fairly clear is that this Blessed God has blessed his people. Paul sets out to describe how this blessing came about. After these two all the relationships become more and more complex!! I've construed the text as a series of 4 coordinate relationships all separated by the phrase "ἐν ᾧ " or as I've translated it, "in Whom". This is clear from the fact that Paul starts in verse 3 by stating, "we're blessed...in Christ". These relative phrases relate back to that initial statement. The relationships within each of these 4 coordinate statements are beautiful and complexly interwoven. There could and will be much debate centered around those particular relationships. But the main point Paul is setting out to explain here is the means of our blessing in Christ and how that ought propel us into joyous praise!
