1 Peter 5:1-5
esv
Therefore, (given the suffering of believers in this age, and the subsequent judgment of all people that will occur in the age to come, and the reality that you are the out-front pastors of the church..do you get the picture?...) I exhort the elders among you,
( speaking as a fellow elder
and a witness of the sufferings of Christ,
as well as a partaker in the glory that is going to be revealed ) :

shepherd the flock of God ( i.e., they don't belong to you, you are a steward/shepherd ) that is among you, (cf. Acts 20:28 )
and exercising oversight, (these things - because of the persecution - are more important than ever:)

not under compulsion,
but willingly,
as God would have you;

not for shameful gain,
but eagerly;
not domineering over those in your charge,
but being examples to the flock.

(So that) when the chief Shepherd appears,
you will receive the unfading crown of glory.

actionpurpose
In a similar way to when I exhorted the elders in relationship to the environment of persecution you find yourselves in, I now exhort you who are younger,
be subject to the elders.
Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another,
for “God opposes the proud
but gives grace to the humble.” (Prov. 3:34; cf. James 4:6)
