Δικαιωθέντες οὖν ἐκ πίστεως
a Therefore, since we have been justified by faith,
εἰρήνην ἔχομεν πρὸς τὸν θεὸν διὰ τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ
b we 1 have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
διʼ οὗ καὶ τὴν προσαγωγὴν ἐσχήκαμεν [τῇ πίστει] εἰς τὴν χάριν ταύτην
Through him we have also c obtained access by faith 1 into this grace
ἐν ᾗ ἑστήκαμεν
d in which we stand,

καὶ καυχώμεθα ἐπʼ ἐλπίδι τῆς δόξης τοῦ θεοῦ.
and e we 2 rejoice 3 in hope of the glory of God.
οὐ μόνον δέ, ἀλλὰ καὶ καυχώμεθα ἐν ταῖς θλίψεσιν,
Not only that, but we f rejoice in our sufferings,
εἰδότες ὅτι ἡ θλῖψις ὑπομονὴν κατεργάζεται,
knowing that suffering g produces endurance,
ἡ δὲ ὑπομονὴ δοκιμήν,
and endurance produces character,
ἡ δὲ δοκιμὴ ἐλπίδα.
and character produces hope,
ἡ δὲ ἐλπὶς οὐ καταισχύνει,
and h hope does not put us to shame,
ὅτι ἡ ἀγάπη τοῦ θεοῦ ἐκκέχυται ἐν ταῖς καρδίαις ἡμῶν
because God’s love i has been poured into our hearts
διὰ πνεύματος ἁγίου τοῦ δοθέντος ἡμῖν.
through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
