Explanations: 1. I originally gave the three main sections (1-2,3,4-5) a 3-step Progression. However, I changed that to an overall Bilateral (with verse 3 as the middle section) because the action of the four men carrying the paralytic are dictated initially and ultimately by the circumstances of a crowded house--a detail which is highlighted in both the first and third sections of this passage. Namely, the gathering crowd has motivated the four men to bring this paralytic to Jesus in the first place, and yet it is the size of this very crowd which threatened his entry, causing the innovative vertical descent. In summary, the actions of the four men are influenced on both sides by the sizable crowd. 2. The Action-Result of v.4-5 could also possibly be labeled a Situation-Response: the actions of the four men lowering their needy friend down to Jesus are met with an ironic/surprising declaration--"Child, your sins are forgiven", not "Child, you are healed." Insights: 1. Not sure what can be made of this, but I do notice that in these 5 verses overall, we have 2 Action-Result relationships (V. 1-2; 4-5) that hinge on an Action-Manner (v. 3). Within the 2 Act-Res pairings, we also see respectively another Action-Result (v.2a-c) and an Action-Purpose (v. 4b-f). At the very least, we can gather that this passage has a lot of action in it. (And ironically the focal recipient of Jesus' grace is incapable of any action!)
