Central Idea: In contrast to those that would steer them away from Christ, Paul calls the Colossians to consider the implications of their union with Christ. United with him in resurrection life, they ought to have a heart and mind set on heavenly priorities; united with his death, their life is now hidden with Christ. Explanations / Questions: v. 1ff, the 'If' clause is not expressed so as to cast doubt, rather it is affirming the truth, 'you have been raised with Christ,' and the implications that follow (1b & 2a). The relationship between 1a and 1b-2b could then be 'Inference.' However, I have left the 'If-Then' relationship because it refines the emphasis of the imperatives... "If x is true - and it is, then y ought to follow."
