Introduction: I am the product of a generation of Southern Baptists that fought a very necessary battle for inerrancy in the late 1970's and early 1980's. And I am grateful to that generation since they were faithful to God in their part of the story. I am proud of the fact that I am the product of a generation of Baptist that weren't afraid to go to war over the Scriptures, and stood up for what was true and right and good in the sight of God. Thank you. I get to stand up and preach and proclaim the word of God because they were faithful. But now, let me plead with you, because we are losing on a massive scale an entire generation. I want to go to the Scriptures that the last generation fought for, and show you what happens when a vibrant, deep, rich, powerful biblical movement of God gets replaced with something else altogether in the same location. To understand the church at Ephesus you really have to go back to the book of Acts in chapters 18 and 19. In Acts 18, we read about how Apollos arrived at Ephesus, and the text clearly says that he was eloquent and competent in the Scriptures. His teaching was a little off, so Priscilla and Aquila had to take him aside and work with him a bit. Then a guy you might have heard of named Paul shows up, and the gospel just explodes in Ephesus - there is such power that even the unbelievers want in on it.
