Strengthened with all Power May you be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy, giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. (Colossians 1:11-12) From the day that Paul and Timothy heard of the new believers in Colossae, they began to pray regularly for them. Paul wrote this letter to them to encourage them to join with him in prayer, to cooperate in God's work in their lives. In his prayer, Paul describes two of God's purposes for the Colossian believers: 1) Reflecting God's worth in every aspect of their lives; 2) Strengthened with all power. Paul prays for the Colossian Christians. He prays that they would be filled (to overflowing, crammed) with the knowledge of God's will (God's determination and choice). The goal of knowing God's will is to reflect the worth of God in every aspect of one's life. Walking "worthy of the Lord" can be expressed in at least three specific ways: - pleasing Him... - doing good... - and recognizing the guiding hand of God in every situation. In addition to praying for the knowledge of God's will, Paul prays that the Colossians would be strengthened. Like knowledge, strength can be expressed in three ways: - endurance... - joyful patience... - and thankfulness.
