A song for 2 kings I'm going to interpret this Psalm as speaking to an earthly king, I'm assuming it speaks to David. But, particularly because of Hebrews 1:8-9, I'll see here as well truth about Jesus. __ I have worked through some problems as I attempt to understand this Psalm. I can read vs. 2 in two ways: 1) It is obvious that God has blessed you, because His blessing is all over your life: you are most handsome, and grace is on your lips; or 2) because of the qualities of your life, God has chosen to bless you forever -- you are uniquely qualified to receive the forever blessing of God. __ One big question is who is being addressed? Vs. 2 starts with one subject, "You". Vs. 6 speaks directly to God who is the subject. Vs. 7 seems to refer to another subject because it speaks of God as other than the subject. The way the ESV sets up the sentences makes the "your" in vs. 6b as the same subject in vs. 7. Hebrews 1 says this Psalm speaks of Jesus. The capitalizations in the NAS show they see the whole Psalm in line with Hebrews 1, and make the Psalm a great example of trinitarianism in the OT. __ what does 4d mean? that a right hand can teach? NIV - display. Ex. 15 25 uses "showed". So it probably means that. I can't think of any way to understand that the king's (King's) right hand teaches him awesome things. __ I'm surprised how moved I've been by this Psalm. A couple of days ago when I realized this was my next Psalm I had low expectations. But I've experienced God doing something deep in my heart as I meditate on this beautiful picture of a glorious King. It even helps to see this as a description of King David's reign. 1. I get filled with expectation for Jesus to establish His Kingdom on earth. 2. I desire His reign in my life. 3. I'm delighted to be part of His "bride". 4. I grow in trust for Him. 5. I love the idea that God has appointed His son to be heir of all things.
