David argues himself into confidence. I can do the same. His plea is just, his life is righteous, God hears righteous pleas, David cries for help against his enemy. He will be satisfied in God. I don't get the phrase (in v. 15) "when I awake". What does that refer to? One thing I find very interesting is that God did answer David. I don't know the context of this Psalm, but when you look at David's life, it's obvious that God answered him - God delivered David over and over. I like that because I can base my confidence in God's work with a man - I can know the outcome will be the same.

A Prayer of David. Hear a just cause, O LORD,
Hear a just cause , O LORD;
give heed to my cry;
attend to my cry!
Give ear to my prayer, which is not from deceitful lips.
Give ear to my prayer from lips free of deceit!
Let my judgment come forth from Your presence;
From your presence let my vindication come!
Let Your eyes look with equity.
Let your eyes behold the right!
You have tried my heart;
You have tried my heart,
You have visited me by night;
you have visited me by night,
You have tested me
you have tested me,
and You find nothing;
and you will find nothing;
I have purposed that my mouth will not transgress.
I have purposed that my mouth will not transgress.
As for the deeds of men,
With regard to the works of man,
by the word of Your lips
by the word of your lips
I have kept from the paths of the violent.
I have avoided the ways of the violent.

I have called upon You,
I call upon you,

Wondrously show Your lovingkindness,
Wondrously show your steadfast love ,
O Savior of those who take refuge at Your right hand From those who rise up against them.
O Savior of those who seek refuge from their adversaries at your right hand.
Keep me as the apple of the eye;
Keep me as the apple of your eye;
Hide me in the shadow of Your wings From the wicked who despoil me,
hide me in the shadow of your wings, from the wicked who do me violence,
My deadly enemies who surround me.
my deadly enemies who surround me.
They have closed their unfeeling heart,
They close their hearts to pity;
With their mouth they speak proudly.
with their mouths they speak arrogantly.
They have now surrounded us in our steps;
They have now surrounded our steps;
They set their eyes to cast us down to the ground.
they set their eyes to cast us to the ground.

Arise, O LORD,
Arise , O LORD!
confront him,
Confront him ,
bring him low;
subdue him!
Deliver my soul from the wicked with Your sword,
Deliver my soul from the wicked by your sword,
