The Big idea: If Christ is exalted, my situation is cause for joy. I can't seem to find a relationship between these two paragraphs. Perhaps they are to remain separate. In 14 I have vacillated between seeing "trusting in the Lord" as the manner that accompanies the action, "have far more courage to speak", or seeing it as the ground for the courage. I've gone with Ac/Mn simply because the word is a participle, and I assume that means there is a process, not a complete state. so the idea is that the brothers, as they continue to observe Paul's imprisonment, are developing a growing trust in God (I don't fully understand how that can come about), as they do so, it is the means by which they can speak the Word boldly. I think Inference is a questionable explanation of vs. 18 -- but it seemed better than the rest. It seems there is a sense of conclusion going on in vs. 18 -- like, "based on all this, what then matters?" In that sense, it works.
