Though strange, I love this Psalm. It isn't unique. David is good at voicing his complaint and cry. I love it because I'm not. Is it because I feel the need to always be "overcoming" all difficulties - that I must "soar with wings as eagles" over the storms of life. All these faith metaphors can create such false expectations. I believe there will be glory as God takes me from glory to glory. But I don't think the pace is as fast as a sit-com. David seems to be able to park in his offense and recognize what is happening. I love his expressiveness. It seems it was of benefit to David, maybe I need to learn it so it can be of benefit to me.

For the choir director; according to Shoshannim. A Psalm of David. Save me, O God,
Save me, O God!
For the waters have threatened my life.
For the waters have come up to my neck.
I have sunk in deep mire,
I sink in deep mire,
and there is no foothold;
where there is no foothold;
locative
I have come into deep waters,
I have come into deep waters,
and a flood overflows me.
and the flood sweeps over me.
series
I am weary with my crying;
I am weary with my crying out;
my throat is parched;
my throat is parched.
My eyes fail
My eyes grow dim
while I wait for my God.
with waiting for my God.

Those who hate me without a cause
More in number than the hairs of my head
are more than the hairs of my head;
are those who hate me without cause;
comparison
Those who would destroy me are powerful,
mighty are those who would destroy me,
being wrongfully my enemies;
those who attack me with lies.

What I did not steal must I now restore?
ground
O God, it is You who knows my folly,
O God, you know my folly;
And my wrongs are not hidden from You.
the wrongs I have done are not hidden from you.
May those who wait for You not be ashamed through me, O Lord GOD of hosts;
Let not those who hope in you be put to shame through me, O Lord God of hosts;
May those who seek You not be dishonored through me, O God of Israel,
let not those who seek you be brought to dishonor through me, O God of Israel.
Because for Your sake
For it is for your sake
I have borne reproach;
that I have borne reproach,
Dishonor has covered my face.
that dishonor has covered my face.
I have become estranged from my brothers
I have become a stranger to my brothers,
And an alien to my mother's sons.
an alien to my mother's sons.
For zeal for Your house has consumed me,
For zeal for your house has consumed me,
And the reproaches of those who reproach You have fallen on me.
and the reproaches of those who reproach you have fallen on me.
When I wept in my soul with fasting,
When I wept and humbled my soul with fasting,
It became my reproach.
it became my reproach.
When I made sackcloth my clothing,
When I made sackcloth my clothing,
I became a byword to them.
I became a byword to them.
Those who sit in the gate talk about me,
I am the talk of those who sit in the gate,
And I am the song of the drunkards.
and the drunkards make songs about me.
But as for me, my prayer is to You, O LORD,
But as for me, my prayer is to you, O LORD.

in your saving faithfulness.
Deliver me from the mire and do not let me sink;
Deliver me from sinking in the mire;
May I be delivered from my foes and from the deep waters.
let me be delivered from my enemies and from the deep waters.
May the flood of water not overflow me
Let not the flood sweep over me,
Nor the deep swallow me up,
or the deep swallow me up,
Nor the pit shut its mouth on me.
or the pit close its mouth over me.

Answer me, O LORD,
Answer me , O LORD,
for Your lovingkindness is good;
for your steadfast love is good;
According to the greatness of Your compassion,
according to your abundant mercy,

You know my reproach
You know my reproach,

All my adversaries are before You.
my foes are all known to you.
Reproach has broken my heart
Reproaches have broken my heart,
and I am so sick.
so that I am in despair.

I looked for pity,
but there was none,

They gave me poison for food,
And for my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.
and for my thirst they gave me sour wine to drink.

Let their own table before them become a snare;
And when they are in peace,

May their camp be a desolation;
May none dwell in their tents.
let no one dwell in their tents.

Add to them punishment upon punishment;
And may they not come into Your righteousness.

I will praise the name of God with a song;

This will please the LORD more than an ox or a bull with horns and hoofs.

You who seek God, let your heart revive.
you who seek God, let your hearts revive.
For the LORD hears the needy
For the LORD hears the needy
And does not despise His who are prisoners.
and does not despise his own people who are prisoners.
Let heaven and earth praise Him, The seas and everything that moves in them.
Let heaven and earth praise him, the seas and everything that moves in them.

For God will save Zion
and build the cities of Judah,
and build up the cities of Judah,
That they may dwell there and possess it.
and people shall dwell there and possess it;
The descendants of His servants will inherit it,
the offspring of his servants shall inherit it,
And those who love His name will dwell in it.
and those who love his name shall dwell in it.
