David preaches to those who feel life is not fair because the ungodly flourish while the godly suffer. In vs. 24, I see three options. I could use Csv, Temporal, or If/Th. I'm going with the NAS. I like the idea that falling will happen - so it isn't conditional (If/Th) as much as to be expected -- when it happens. The Csv is useful to give the idea of God's intervention. Falling would naturally lead to being "hurled headlong". But as a contrary statement, he will not be hurled headlong. In vs. 25, I choose Csv because it seems implied in 25a that there is a "though" that matches the "yet". The idea seems to be, if one had only lived a short life it would make sense that they had not experienced seeing righteous people forsaken. But David has been both young and old, and though he has lived a long life, he has not seen what one would think is natural to see - he has never seen the righteous forsaken.

A Psalm of David. Do not fret because of evildoers,
Fret not yourself because of evildoers;
Be not envious toward wrongdoers.
be not envious of wrongdoers!
series
For they will wither quickly like the grass And fade like the green herb.
For they will soon fade like the grass and wither like the green herb.
ground
Trust in the LORD
Trust in the LORD,
and do good;
and do good;
Dwell in the land
dwell in the land
and cultivate faithfulness.
and befriend faithfulness.
Delight yourself in the LORD;
Delight yourself in the LORD,
And He will give you the desires of your heart.
and he will give you the desires of your heart.
actionresult
Commit your way to the LORD,
Commit your way to the LORD;
Trust also in Him,
trust in him,
and He will do it.
and he will act.
He will bring forth your righteousness as the light And your judgment as the noonday.
He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday.
ideaexplanation
Rest in the LORD
Be still before the LORD
and wait patiently for Him;
and wait patiently for him;
Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who carries out wicked schemes.
fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices!
Cease from anger
Refrain from anger,
and forsake wrath;
and forsake wrath!
Do not fret;
Fret not yourself;
it leads only to evildoing.
it tends only to evil.
negativepositive
For evildoers will be cut off,
For the evildoers shall be cut off,
But those who wait for the LORD, they will inherit the land.
but those who wait for the LORD shall inherit the land.
Yet a little while and the wicked man will be no more;
In just a little while, the wicked will be no more;
And you will look carefully for his place
though you look carefully at his place,
and he will not be there.
he will not be there.
concessive
But the humble will inherit the land And will delight themselves in abundant prosperity.
But the meek shall inherit the land and delight themselves in abundant peace.
The wicked plots against the righteous And gnashes at him with his teeth.
The wicked plots against the righteous and gnashes his teeth at him,
The Lord laughs at him,
but the Lord laughs at the wicked,
For He sees his day is coming.
for he sees that his day is coming.
situationresponse
The wicked have drawn the sword and bent their bow
The wicked draw the sword and bend their bows
To cast down the afflicted and the needy,
to bring down the poor and needy,
To slay those who are upright in conduct.
to slay those whose way is upright;
actionpurpose
Their sword will enter their own heart,
their sword shall enter their own heart,
And their bows will be broken.
and their bows shall be broken.
Better is the little of the righteous Than the abundance of many wicked.
Better is the little that the righteous has than the abundance of many wicked.
For the arms of the wicked will be broken,
For the arms of the wicked shall be broken,
But the LORD sustains the righteous.
but the LORD upholds the righteous.
The LORD knows the days of the blameless,
The LORD knows the days of the blameless,
And their inheritance will be forever.
and their heritage will remain forever;
They will not be ashamed in the time of evil,
they are not put to shame in evil times;
And in the days of famine they will have abundance.
in the days of famine they have abundance.
But the wicked will perish;
But the wicked will perish;
And the enemies of the LORD will be like the glory of the pastures,
the enemies of the LORD are like the glory of the pastures;
They vanish--
they vanish--
like smoke they vanish away.
like smoke they vanish away.
The wicked borrows and does not pay back,
The wicked borrows but does not pay back,
But the righteous is gracious and gives.
but the righteous is generous and gives;
For those blessed by Him will inherit the land,
for those blessed by the LORD shall inherit the land,
But those cursed by Him will be cut off.
but those cursed by him shall be cut off.
The steps of a man are established by the LORD,
The steps of a man are established by the LORD,
And He delights in his way.
when he delights in his way;
temporal
When he falls,
though he fall,
he will not be hurled headlong,
he shall not be cast headlong,
Because the LORD is the One who holds his hand.
for the LORD upholds his hand.
I have been young
(though) I have been young,
and now I am old,
and now am old,
Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken Or his descendants begging bread.
yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his children begging for bread.
All day long he is gracious and lends,
He is ever lending generously,
And his descendants are a blessing.
and his children become a blessing.
Depart from evil
Turn away from evil
and do good,
and do good;
So you will abide forever.
so shall you dwell forever.
For the LORD loves justice
For the LORD loves justice;
And does not forsake His godly ones;
he will not forsake his saints.
They are preserved forever,
They are preserved forever,
But the descendants of the wicked will be cut off.
but the children of the wicked shall be cut off.
The righteous will inherit the land And dwell in it forever.
The righteous shall inherit the land and dwell upon it forever.
The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom,
The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom,
And his tongue speaks justice.
and his tongue speaks justice.
The law of his God is in his heart;
The law of his God is in his heart;
His steps do not slip.
his steps do not slip.
The wicked spies upon the righteous And seeks to kill him.
The wicked watches for the righteous and seeks to put him to death.
The LORD will not leave him in his hand Or let him be condemned
The LORD will not abandon him to his power or let him be condemned
when he is judged.
when he is brought to trial.
Wait for the LORD
Wait for the LORD
and keep His way,
and keep his way,
And He will exalt you to inherit the land;
and he will exalt you to inherit the land;
When the wicked are cut off,
you will look on
you will see it.
when the wicked are cut off.
I have seen a wicked, violent man Spreading himself like a luxuriant tree in its native soil.
(though) I have seen a wicked, ruthless man, spreading himself like a green laurel tree.
Then he passed away,
But he passed away,
and lo, he was no more;
and behold, he was no more;
I sought for him,
though I sought him,
but he could not be found.
he could not be found.
Mark the blameless man,
Mark the blameless
and behold the upright;
and behold the upright,
For the man of peace will have a posterity.
for there is a future for the man of peace.
But transgressors will be altogether destroyed;
But transgressors shall be altogether destroyed;
The posterity of the wicked will be cut off.
the future of the wicked shall be cut off.
But the salvation of the righteous is from the LORD;
The salvation of the righteous is from the LORD;
He is their strength in time of trouble.
he is their stronghold in the time of trouble.
The LORD helps them and delivers them;
The LORD helps them and delivers them;
He delivers them from the wicked and saves them,
he delivers them from the wicked and saves them,
Because they take refuge in Him.
because they take refuge in him.
