Beautiful truth fills this Psalm, truth that was foundational for David as he was being tracked through the wilderness like a hunted lion As I struggle, meditating on 1-2, some new possibilities are arising. I didn't understand the first word of vs. 2 "thus" "so". It didn't read right. But as I stay there, I see something I haven't seen before. Both the words "Thus" and "so" can mean: "to an indicated or suggested extent or degree" (Webster). So it is possible to read the connection like this: I seek you I thirst for you as my body would thirst in a dry land (I've been here before, for) To that extent I have looked upon you (before), beholding your power and glory If I'm on track, David has known soul hunger before. And in the wilderness, he draws on his background with God. "I have been this hungry, I have looked upon you in similar depth of need (though the circumstances were different), and I beheld your power and glory." I'm also stunned by that statement of fact: "I have beheld your power and your glory in the sanctuary." (ESV) That sounds a lot like Moses' request and experience ... "show me your glory." Vs. 8-11 are the foundation of David's faith (+A) My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me. (-B) Those who seek my life will be destroyed; ( -B) They will be given over to the sword (+A) But the king will rejoice in God; All who swear by God's name will glory/exult, for the mouths of liars will be stopped. I really like that. It gave David hope in the watches of the night as he was tormented. He held onto faith. He lived by the voice of his Father.

O God, you are my God;
I shall seek You
earnestly
earnestly;
I seek you;
actionmanner
My soul thirsts for You,
my soul thirsts for you;
my flesh yearns for You,
my flesh faints for you,
series
In a dry and weary land where there is no water.
as (? My soul thirsts in the same way my body would thirst) in a dry and weary land where there is no water.
comparison
locative
Thus I have seen You in the sanctuary,
So (with that intensity) I have looked upon you in the sanctuary,
To see Your power and Your glory.
beholding your power and glory.
Because Your lovingkindness is better than life,
Because your steadfast love is better than life,
My lips will praise You.
my lips will praise you.
So I will bless You
So (even now) I will bless you
as long as I live;
as long as I live;
temporal
I will lift up my hands in Your name.
in your name I will lift up my hands.
inference
My soul is satisfied
My soul will be satisfied
as with marrow and fatness,
as with fat and rich food,
And my mouth offers praises
and my mouth will praise you
with joyful lips.
with joyful lips,
When I remember You
when I remember you
on my bed,
upon my bed,
I meditate on You
and meditate on you
in the night watches,
in the watches of the night;
For You have been my help,
for you have been my help,
And in the shadow of Your wings
and in the shadow of your wings
I sing for joy.
I will sing for joy.
ground
My soul clings to You;
My soul clings to you;
Your right hand upholds me.
your right hand upholds me.
But those who seek my life to destroy it, Will go into the depths of the earth.
But those who seek to destroy my life shall go down into the depths of the earth;
negativepositive
They will be delivered over to the power of the sword;
they shall be given over to the power of the sword;
They will be a prey for foxes.
they shall be a portion for jackals.
But the king will rejoice in God;
But the king shall rejoice in God;
Everyone who swears by Him will glory,
all who swear by him shall exult,
For the mouths of those who speak lies will be stopped.
for the mouths of liars will be stopped.
