1 Peter 1:3-9
g Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!
Blessed be 8 the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!
All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Praise be to God the father of our lord Jesus Christ!
h According to his great mercy,
By his great mercy
It is by his great mercy
Because of his great mercy
i he has caused us to be born again to a living hope
he gave us new birth into a living hope
that we have been born again,
he caused us to be born again to a living hope
j through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead,
through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead
to k an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and l unfading, m kept in heaven for you,
that is, 9 into 10 an inheritance imperishable, undefiled, and unfading. It is reserved in heaven for you,
to a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay.
to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, being kept in heaven for you
who by God’s power
who by God’s power
by his power
who by God's power
are being guarded
are protected
God is protecting you
Are protected
n through faith
through faith
through your faith,
by your faith
for a salvation o ready to be revealed in the last time.
for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
until you receive this salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day for all to see.
for a salvation ready to be revealed on the last day.
In this you rejoice,
This brings you great joy, 11
So be truly glad.
In all this you rejoice,
though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by p various trials,
although you may have to suffer 12 for a short time in various trials
even though you must endure many trials for a little while.
even though for a little while it is necessary for you to be grieved by various trials
so that q the tested genuineness of your faith —more precious than gold that perishes r though it is tested by s fire—may be found to result in t praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
in order to show the proven character of your faith, 13 which is much more valuable than gold - gold that is tested by fire, even though it is passing away 14 - and will bring praise 15 and glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. 16
These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.
so that your tested faith–which is more precious than gold which perishes even if it is tested by fire–would result in praise and glory for Jesus when he comes;
u Though you have not seen him,
You 17 have not seen him,
You love him even though you have never seen him.
You don't see him,
you love him.
but you love him.
nevertheless you love him
v Though you do not now see him,
You 18 do not see him now
Though you do not see him now,
You don't see him now
you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory,
but you believe in him, and so you rejoice 19 with an indescribable and glorious 20 joy,
you trust him; and you rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible joy.
nevertheless you trust him and even rejoice with him with otherworldly joy beyond words
obtaining w the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
because you are attaining the goal of your faith - the salvation of your souls.
The reward for trusting him will be the salvation of your souls.
thereby obtaining the outcome of your faith: the salvation of your souls.
#1 Rebirth to new inheritance
No need to mourn your inheritance here...
NLT takes the loving and rejoicing as instrumental instead of causal
NLT is taking this as a command
#2 God guards you
The inheritance is the big deal here, not the rebirth
but also for emphasis BDAG #5
The climax of the honor and glory of Jesus in this passage is our salvation.
