This passage is like a stairway and each step gets closer to the goal. Each step is introduced by the greek conjunction ἵνα (usually translated "that" or "in order that" in english). The passage could be outline as follows: 1. Paul prays (verses 14–15) 2. That God would strengthen them by the Holy Spirit (verses 16–17) 3. That they would comprehend and know the love of Christ (verses 18–19a) 4. That they would be filled with all the fullness of God (verse 19b)
