Have hope, that the dead who are in Christ will rise again, as did our Lord, as will those of us that are alive in Christ at His second coming. This hope rests on/in Christ; so encourage one another until that great day comes!

1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
esv
mine
But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers,
Listen carefully my dear ones and do not get this wrong,
about those who are asleep,
concerning the fate of those who have died in Christ,
g that you may not grieve as others do h who have no hope.
we would not have you grieving over them like the world does who have no heavenly hope.
For i since we believe that Jesus died and rose again,
Because we know that Jesus is the first fruit of the resurrection,
even so , through Jesus, God will bring with him j those who have fallen asleep.
we can trust that God will also raise the dead whose faith rests in Christ.
For this we declare to you k by a word from the Lord, 1
We know this and share it with you as truth because it came to us from the Lord Himself,
that l we who are alive, who are left until m the coming of the Lord,
regarding His return, that the faithful who are alive at that time
will not precede those who have fallen asleep.
will not join Him before the fallen faithful do.
For n the Lord himself will descend o from heaven p with a cry of command,
Know therefore , that Jesus Christ our Lord will return from heaven exercising His authority,
with the voice of q an archangel,
speaking with a commanding voice,
and r with the sound of the trumpet of God.
and it will be clear that this word is from the mouth of God!
And s the dead in Christ will rise first.
In response to this great command our brethren who have fallen asleep shall rise up from their rest.
Then we who are alive, who are left, will be t caught up together
Next we who still live will rise up as also,
with them u in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air,
to join with them and our Lord together in the air,
and so v we will always be with the Lord.
and never again will we be parted from our Lord and God.
Therefore encourage one another with these words.
Therefore do not despair but instead encourage all the brothers and sisters in Christ with this great promise, with this priceless hope.

Observations Plus
Observations: V13 - Note "brothers", this is addressed to fellow believers and with a degree of affection. V13 - What: Do not be uninformed. V13 - About: The dead in Christ. V14 - Here is the foundation for what we do believe, that Jesus died and rose again" V14 - Jesus is the first fruits, meaning those who have died in Christ will likewise rise in Christ by the hand of God. V15 - This we know because it has been revealed to us V15 - The revelation is that we who are alive at His 2nd coming will not precede those who are deceased. V16 - This is what it will look like: V16/17 - With authority, a loud commanding voice, and with the sound of trumpets, the dead will rise and then we will join them in the clouds together to meet our Lord. V17 - Never to be apart from our Lord again. V18 - So encourage one another with this word. - Knowledge of the revealed word of God is something to reassure one another with. - Sleep is a way of describing physical death. - We grieve for the dead but not without hope which is how unbelievers grieve. - Our hope is through Jesus.

Next Steps
As my Adult Bible Fellowship (ABF) teaching starts up for the year, I am already using these comprehension skills to identify and bring out of scripture the teaching points for each weeks lesson. I will be teaching from the Gospel of Matthew beginning this Fall in chapter six and planning to finish chapter twelve before next summer break. I am also finding the paraphrasing process to be very helpful in creating discourse that flows readily from my tongue instead of being chained to my notes and the lecturn. Thank you all at Biblearc for developing and sharing these great tools. Once I get settled into my teaching routine I plan to be back here and enrolling in the next course.
