So , amidst these trying times of suffering, I exhort the elders among you ,

ὁ συμπρεσβύτερος

even as a fellow elder

καὶ μάρτυς τῶν τοῦ Χριστοῦ παθημάτων,

The manner by which one shepherds the flock of God is : by exercising oversight,

μὴ ἀναγκαστῶς

the manner by which one exercises oversight is firstly: not under compulsion,

ἀλλʼ ἑκουσίως κατὰ θεόν,

but willingly, as God would have you;

but being examples to the flock.
