So also the tongue is a small member, yet h it boasts of great things.
How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire!
A huge forest is set on fire
And i the tongue is a fire,
a world of unrighteousness.
The tongue is set among our members,
j staining the whole body,
setting on fire the entire course of life, 1
and set on fire by hell. 2
For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and sea creature, can be tamed
and has been tamed by mankind,
but no human being can tame the tongue.
It is a restless evil,
k full of deadly poison.
With it we bless our Lord and Father,
and with it we curse people l who are made in the likeness of God.
From the same mouth come blessing and cursing.
My brothers, 1 these things ought not to be so.
Does a spring pour forth from the same opening both fresh and salt water?
Can a fig tree, my brothers, bear olives,
or a grapevine produce figs?
Neither can a salt pond yield fresh water.
Full of death bringing poison.
A powerful warning/follow up to "brothers, let not many of you be teachers". If no human can tame the tongue, how great is our need for Gods help! A tongue We should be very thankful to God for our perfect savior. He always please the Father in all things. The words of his mouth and meditations of his heart were acceptable in the sight of God. May God fill us with his Holy Spirit so that we might have pure hearts resulting in pure words. ( Matt 15:18)
Didn't really get to finish this one.. But wanted to make sure to turn it in to contribute.
