The argument : Remember you were separated from God and his people but now you are brought near. Therefore, because you have now been brought near, (realize and celebrate the fact that) you are now fellow citizens and house members being built by God himself into his temple. Discourse analytic note : It is interesting that this is the first command in the book of Ephesians. This is the dominant imperative of the first 3 chapters and the basis of the last three chapters. Tentative Sermon outline (This is not a sermon in a series on Ephesians but a topical series on gazing at the glory of God. So the main point of the sermon is not the main point of the text. My main point is point #3): Gaze at the glory of God by... Remembering who you once were (vv. 11-12) Appreciating who you now are (vv. 13-18) Actively noticing what God is making you (as CrossView Church) (vv. 19-22) Questions: (1) I'm still not sure what to do with the participle in verse 20. Is it a result, means/manner, or causal participle? Maybe it's a temporal participle referring to the initial act of being built on Christ in our union with him and our justification (it's an aorist participle so the being built would have come before our being made fellow citizens / house members). (2) Is there a better label for the arcs of 21 and 22 than explanations of the "in whom" of the previous verses?

See notes for more info. Vv. 11-18 is Paul telling us to remember what were and what we are now. Vv. 19-22 draws the inference from what we are now.
This is a series of 5 arcs coordinate to each other.

I'm not sure how to take this kai since I'm not taking it as indicating "series" (coordinate) here.

Are we fellow citizens and members of the same household (1) with the result that we are the temple being built (2) by means of us being the temple being built or (3) because we are the temple being built? I'm not sure one of these fits well. Maybe being the temple built is the explanation of the idea of being fellow citizens / house members.
these two explanation arcs (vv. 21-22) show that the context of the building and fitting together is in the Lord Jesus the Messiah
