Central Idea - Make Christ the Center Support - 3:12-17 is a series of Progressing commands. The pinnacle of which is a focus on Jesus Christ and all that he has done for us and modeled for us, as the primary motivator for putting on 12-14 - Put on - focusing on the specific characteristics and manner (bearing, forgiving, loving) that these characteristics need to be carried out in the body of Christ. 15 - Let peace rule - the goal of what we strive for is peace with those in the body which we also must actively pursue 16 - Let the Word of Christ dwell - the source of truth that fills us with truth (after the sin has been expunged vv. 5-11) and it is done in community 17 - Do all in the name of Christ - the central motivating reason for our focus on the Word of Christ, peace, and putting on. He is the center, not only of our worship together, but of every action.

Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience,
bearing with one another
and, (forgiving each other)
if one has a complaint against another, (esv - forgiving each other;)
conditional
as the Lord has forgiven you,
so you also [esv - must forgive].
comparison
And above all these [esv - put on] love,
which (is the bond of completeness) binds everything together in perfect harmony.

And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts,
to which indeed you were called in one body.
And be thankful.
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly,
teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom,
(psalms, hymns, spiritual songs singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God) [esv -singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.]
series
And whatever you do, in word or deed,
[do] everything in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks to God the Father through him.
