Explanations - not using the Greek, am too rusty and want just want to dip my toes into arcing at this point. Will ease in slowly. This is my first attempt at arcing and explaining it. Central Idea - set your mind on things above, because you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in that above place where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. I see an Action - Manner relationship between 1b and 2a. The action being "seek the things that are above" and then the manner of that action being by "setting your minds on things above" explaining how to do the action. The ground/foundation for all of this is that we have died, so now our life is really different than what it appears at first glance. In fact, it's hidden - above. The only way to achieve a "full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God's mystery, which is Christ" (2:2), is to see Christ as the only way to know God. There's no other mystery worth searching for, as some were claiming/teaching; such as through ecstatic visions, warding off angels, and denying the body in order to have a supernatural vision of God. Question for more consideration - what does Paul mean by "above"? It seems it would be more than just a realm, but rather the rule of God and all that it entails.
