Main point summary
By God's mercies therefore, we should not be conformed to this present evil age, but by the renewal of our mind be transformed, so that through testing we may prove what is the good, acceptable, and perfect will of God , in order to present our bodies as a sacrifice: living, holy and acceptable to God, and therefore glorify him.
Romans 12:1-2

Therefore (oun). This signals that the following is an inference from his lengthy presentation of doctrines from chapters 1 - 11. Now instead of giving a command(which he could) Paul turns to exhortation (parakalo), "I appeal to you." Because in light of the mercies of God, as expressed from the previous chapters, it is only reasonable for us to worship God through our bodies. It must logically follow that after hearing what we've done to merit God's judgment and what the triune God did to reconcile us to him, the only response should be that of worship. And we can only do this if we have a renewed mind and therefore be able to know what the will of God is in order to present our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God.
