Peter's question to his suffering audience concerning being zealous for what is good informs them that Generally, being zealous to do good will not bring harm from another. v13 3rd class conditional: often presents the condition as uncertain of fulfillment, but still likely. Plainly: "If you are zealous for what is good, then who is there to harm you?" Nuanced (based on context): "If you are zealous for what is good (and it is probable that you are), then it is highly probable that there is no one to harm you (although you may experience suffering/harm)." The question posed by Peter is not "what" frightens you or causes fear in regards to potential suffering, but "who" are you afraid of. Those who may cause harm should not be feared. In contrast, conditionally even if suffering occurs due to pursuing righteous living there will be blessing . v14 14a+b is 4th class conditional: a possible condition in the future, usually a remote possibility (such as if he could do something, if perhaps this should occur). Nuanced: "Even if it is remotely possible that you should suffer..." It is not the norm to be zealous for what is good and then to suffer. However, even if you do potentially suffer, you are guaranteed that you will be blessed. Suffering is possible but uncertain at best. Blessing is certain. v16: use your moral compass when you provide a defense Christ's suffering in vv18-20 is the grounds for why Peter's readers should suffer for zealously doing good vv13– v18: Christ suffered once for sins...for the purpose of bringing us to God. The manner in which He did that was by being put to death in the flesh…

Now who is there to harm you
if you are zealous for what is good?
conditional
But even if you should suffer for righteousness' sake,
you will be blessed.
alternative
Have no fear of them,
nor be troubled,
series
but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy,
always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you;
yet do it with gentleness and respect,
having a good conscience,
actionmanner
so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame.

questionanswer
For it is better to suffer for doing good,
if that should be God's will,
than for doing evil.
ground
For (Because) Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous,
that he might bring us to God,
being put to death in the (realm of the) flesh
but made alive in (by menans of the or in the realm of) the spirit,
in which (when) he went and proclaimed to the spirits in prison,
because (or "when") they formerly did not obey,
when God's patience waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through water.
temporal
Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you,
not as a removal of dirt from the body
but as an appeal to God for a good conscience,
through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, with angels, authorities, and powers having been subjected to him.
