Those who have been saved by God have the Spirit to help them in this task of controlling the tongue and helping the needy. Mere religious acts do not save or change a person; however, those who are truly saved will be known by their change of heart and actions. Being saved by God and still remaining the old self (those who continue on in sin and deception like in James 1:26) is not an option. Alternatively, those who have been saved by God will be different. They care about those in distress and fight to stay unstained in a stained world (James 1:27).
