This arc is a continuation of 1 Peter 5:1-5, with the "therefore" in v6 linking the two passages together. vv. 6-7 This is the second part of Peter's exhortation in v5 to be humble. Since God favors the humble, Christians should therefore humble themselves in order that they may be exalted at the proper time. How are they to humble themselves under the mighty hand of God? Peter says that they are to cast all their anxieties on him, which is an act that requires submission to God and trusting in him. Humility involves looking to God rather than to the self. vv. 8-10 Peter's next exhortation is for Christians to be sober-minded and watchful. They are to do so because of the dangers presented by the devil, who is "seeking someone to devour". The Christian's response to this is to resist him and be firm in their faith. They are not alone in their suffering - believers everywhere face similar challenges. Despite sufferings in the present, Christians are to take comfort by looking to their promised future, where eternal glory awaits them. v11-14 Peter finishes his letter with concluding greetings to his recipients.
