Paul ends his epic letter with peace, love, faith, and grace. All these are from God. Now it is undebated that God gives peace, love, and grace, but that God gives faith is what stirs up the pot. Verse 23 seems to be clear though that faith is from God, and since it takes faith to be saved, this verse inevitably puts God as the One who determines who will be saved. There are only two ways around this that I can see. One may believe that faith has two fountains from which it flows: us and God. Or possibly one might think that that we start the flow of our fountain of faith and God just adds to it. I do not think either of these options have their home in God's Word, but only in the minds of philosophical men. It is by grace we are saved, through faith, and this (the salvation by grace through faith- look at the Greek) is not from us, but it is the gift of God, not by works so that no man may boast. Eph. 2:8-9.
