I see a progression joining v. 3 and v. 4 instead of a series. Although you could switch the fathers and children sections around and it would still make gramatical sense, it would not make sense in the broader context of 5:22-6:9. There are three sections in this passage: Instructions for Marriage Instructions for Families Instructions for Work In each of these passages, Paul first addresses the one who is subject and then addresses the one in authority. There is a progression here, and so it would not make sense if Fathers came first followed by children in 6:1-4. We would be scratching our heads trying to discern the lack of parallelism. Therefore, because it is predictable that after Paul addresses children that he will address their authority, Fathers, then the passage cannot be switched around, so thus it is a progression and not a series.
