I have always heard v. 20 quoted out of context so I decided to arc this one. I seems to me that in these verses, Jesus is talking about church discipline and the typical use of verse 20 has been routinely been outside of the author's original meaning. There is a very reassuring idea though that comes out of these verses. Christ's authority will be with a group of believers when they make biblical decisions. In this case it is the subject of discipline. These verses also show that we must not be hasty in making decisions in regards to discipline. Instead we should use wisdom and give that brother or sister every opportunity to repent.
