MANUSCRIPT COLOSSIANS 1:15-23 GREETINGS, Intro: Today’s passage tells about who Jesus is, who we were & what Jesus has achieved for us. Prayer: Father in heaven, we thank u for this wonderful time, as the word is being shared help us to know u better, change us in which ever area we need to change and understand the marvelous work that u’ve done for us. We thank u again & ask all these in the mighty name of Lord Jesus Christ. Amen. Passage reading. Message: This passage reintroduces Jesus to us. Let us know verse by verse of who he is & what he has done for us. He is the image of the invisible God : Before Jesus people only heard about him but none saw him. Paul is mentioning this not because of the visibility of Jesus when he was on earth but people began to know more about God through Jesus. Firstborn of all creation : Jesus was never created. But he is referred as Firstborn of all creation because of the rights n authority that he has. All things were created by Him, through Him & For Him : Jesus is the very purpose of whole creation. Everything is for Him & not us. We are merely an instrument or clay in his hands. Our job is to worship Him. He is before all things : He ever existed, making it clear that Jesus was not created, proving that He is God. In Him all things hold together : Every creation continues to be so because of Him. Because He is the God who is able & everything happens as per His will. Head of the body of church : He is the controller of the church. The purpose of church’s existence today. The entire church needs to respond according to His will. He is the Beginning : As He was never created by this we could infer that before all creation he existed. The Firstborn from the dead : Certainly Jesus was not the first one to rise up from the dead but He is the Firstborn because of it’s greatness. He might be preeminent : All the above points prove that he is the main Master, the supreme Authority, The outstanding One, The chief, The Dominant etc. The fullness of God dwells : As He was the image of the invisible God the entirety og God dwelt in Him. God was embodied in Him. Reconciled to himself all things : He worked out for us. He bought peace between himself & man. He died on the cross & propitiated for us. He mended the relationship between God & man. From here we see what kind of people we were: Alienated : Because of our sin and our sinful nature we had become non-existing in the eyes of God. But, thanks to Jesus who gave His life for us on the cross & accomplished a marvelous job in that God is so close to us that He dwells in our hearts. Hostile : We were the enemies of God. We disobeyed Him, did everything according to our own will. Didn’t worship Him but worshipped ourself. Did everything contrary to His will. Did evil : We didn’t know God, which made our lives miserable & ended up sinning & being evil. Work of Christ : He has now reconciled in His body of flesh by His death in order to present us holy & blameless & above reproach before Him God doesn’t stand sin or sinners, he hates both. But thanks be to Jesus Christ who reconciled us as He died for us at the appointed time. Today we stand righteous in Him & It is completely His job to present us holy, blameless & above reproach. Main step that this passage reminds us to take while continuing in faith: Continuing in faith : Paul asked the saints at Colossae not to backslide but continue to walk according to the ways of the scriptures. To hold on to the way in which God asked them. Be stable : Do not be wavery. Be steadfast : Be firm & determined in God. Don’t shift from the hope of the gospel : Don’t be despaired, don’t hope in anything or anyone else. SERMON OUTLINE ETS : Paul reintroduced who Jesus is, who we were & what Jesus achieved for us. FCF : We were alienated, hostile in mind & were evil that God himself had to redeem us. ESS : How does this passage strongly remind us of who Jesus is, who we were & what he has achieved for us? OSS : Jesus is the Preeminent God who restored us to himself that we should no more be wavering. PQ : How does this passage help us continue walking in our faith? TSMP+UW: Few steps that has to be considered while walking in faith. Be stable : Do not be wavery. Be steadfast : Be firm & determined in God. Don’t shift from the hope of the gospel : Don’t be despaired, don’t hope in anything or anyone else.
