How Majestic Is Your Name 8 To the choirmaster: according to The p Gittith. 1 A Psalm of David. 1 O Lord , our Lord, how majestic is your q name in all the earth! You have set your r glory above the heavens. 2 s Out of the mouth of babies and infants, you have established t strength because of your foes, to still u the enemy and the avenger. 3 When I v look at your heavens, the work of your w fingers, the moon and the stars, x which you have set in place, 4 y what is man that you are z mindful of him, and a the son of man that you b care for him? 5 Yet you have made him a little lower than c the heavenly beings 1 and crowned him with d glory and honor. 6 You have given him e dominion over the works of your hands; f you have put all things under his feet, 7 all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field, 8 the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas. 9 O Lord , our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Sermon notes
God's name is overwhelmingly majestic Intro 'Name' - i.e., the knowledge, reputation which God has made known about himself. His 'brand'. 1. God's name is overwhelmingly majestic (v1-4) v1 all the earth. Glory above heavens; i.e., can't be contained within creation. v2 God is so great that he shows it even through the very weakest of human beings. cf Matthew 21.15-16; 2 Corinthians 12. v3-4 Despite his greatness, he is concerned for humanity Do we respond to the wonder of creation like this? What is it that stops us? 2. Yet he has given astonishing honour to humankind v5 a little [while] lower than 'angels' - cf Hebrews 2.1-10 v6-8 dominion over all creation; cf Genesis 1-2 FCF: Rather than living overwhelmed with joy at knowing God's majestic name, we are absorbed with pride at ourselves, as if we were centres of the universe. Jesus as true man - living joyfully under the rule of the Father. Subdue and rule fulfilled in the work of Jesus, where he endured the curse of sin and death. And the Father has put all things under his feet; the victory has been won. Dominion over all things given to a man, Jesus of Nazareth. Here is the true man! cf Psalm 15. Ecce homo. The true adam of Genesis 1 who has subdued death. Union - in him, I have subdued and ruled, i.e. I am part of the new, raised humanity; and so that is what I do in my small patch of creation in this present age. Wrap up How majestic is your name in all the earth!
