O Lord , Deliver My Life 6 To the choirmaster: with stringed instruments; according to v The Sheminith. 1 A Psalm of David. 1 O Lord , w rebuke me not in your anger, nor x discipline me in your wrath. 2 Be gracious to me, O Lord , for I am languishing; y heal me, O Lord , z for my bones are troubled. 3 My a soul also is greatly troubled. The LORD hears our weeping prayers Introduction 'Sad street' again. Sheminith/the 8th. Sadness, grief, anxiety, depression - which is of an 'all body' kind. Note the choice of language. What can we look to, appeal to, rely on, when our whole soul and body is spent? 1. Cry out to God in the midst of terrible troubles (v1-3) When it feels like wrath/anger When your whole body is affected and 'greatly troubled' It is a good thing, a godly thing, to cry out 'how long O lord?' since we are looking to him alone. 2. In your grief, appeal to his covenant love (v4-7) Save me for the sake of your steadfast love No glory to God if his people are not saved. He has pledged himself. So many tears - we can identify 3. We can have complete confidence that God hears us, and will put all things right (v8-10) He's heard the sound of our weeping, our plea, our prayer. All this confidence is in Jesus, the covenant love made flesh. FCF: Our frailty and all-body discouragement, fear, anxiety, and depression. Compounded extraordinarily by sin. Caused by us, received by us, mis-interpreted by us, maliciously interpreted by us; self-interpreted by us. Jesus: Jesus knows what it is to weep! He is the greater Jeremiah. Lazarus; and he weeps over Jerusalem. He comes showing the HESED of God in flesh (John 1.14) His work: the workers of evil did not depart from him. Instead, he was ashamed and greatly troubled. So that in him, we might have never-dying hope. Never be put to shame, never ashamed of the gospel (cf Rom 1.16) By his blood, the HESED secured forever for his people, in his body. Wrap up What can we look to, appeal to, rely on, when our whole soul and body is spent? The LORD hears our weeping prayers.
