Romans 2:6 - The just and righteous Judge, rendering just and righteous judgment
Let's recap Paul's message to the unbelieving Jew (as well as any moral person) so far. Paul stated factually that they are without excuse when they self-righteously judge others while practicing the same sins(v. 2:1). They KNOW that God judges everyone who practices these sins (v. 2:2). By means of rhetoric, he then accuses them of either wrongly thinking they will escape God's judgment (v. 2:3), OR presuming on God's grace and mercy (v. 2:4). Regardless of which mistake they are guilty of, it doesn't matter, because in reality, all they are doing is storing up God's wrath upon themselves, which they will finally receive on the day of judgment (v. 2:5). In v. 2:6, Paul then gives the reason why he says this - God WILL render to EACH person according to his DEEDS. As he said in v. 2:2, this rendering, or judgment, rightly falls on those who "practice such things." As we will see in v. 2:7-8, there are only two options, and one, or the other, WILL be rendered. Eternal life. Or wrath and indignation. Paul leaves no doubt about the options presented, and he also leaves no doubt about the certainty of this judgment. As the writer of Hebrews makes clear, "it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment" (Hebrews 9:27). 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9 when the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire, dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. These will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power
