notes
Main point summary
Hope should produce holy conduct in us Christians because the holy God who called them and made them his children commands us to be holy (vv. 13-16) and because holy Jesus redeemed us from our futile, unholy conduct (vv. 17-21).

NT
1 Peter 1:13-21
Therefore, having girded up the loins of your mind,
by being sober-minded,
fully set your hope on the grace to be given to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

inference
As obedient children,
not being conformed to your former ignorant passions,
but according to the holiness of the one who called you,
you also should be holy in all your conduct,
since it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy."

And if you call on as Father the one who judges impartially according to each one's work,
then in fear conduct yourselves during the time of your exile,
conditional
since you know that
not with perishable things,
like silver or gold,
were you redeemed from the futile conduct handed down from your forefathers,
but [you were redeemed with] precious blood,
as of an unblemished and spotless lamb,
[the blood of] Christ,
