40 The Leper is the picture of compassion. He approaches He implores He kneels The Leper has a limited faith: he believes in the ability but not the compassion of Jesus. 41 But Jesus is moved with pity: His hand is outstretched, to touch the contagious skin His voice declares his willingness, and his command completes the cleansing 42 Immediately, the command is effective--leprosy flees, and cleansing is all. 43 Then there is a stern warning (that precedes the dispatch) 44 Jesus' directive Tell no one (but the priest) Offer the priest his sacrifice Moses told you to It's your proof 45 The Leper's Defiance (and impact on Jesus) Went out and talked freely with the result that the news spread With the result that Jesus could not move freely in the towns but rather hunt the desolate places And still the people sought him out (from every quarter)

And a leper came to him,
imploring him, and kneeling said to him,
"If you will, you can make me clean."
Moved with pity,
he stretched out his hand and touched him
and said to him, "I will; be clean."
And immediately the leprosy left him,
and he was made clean.
And Jesus sternly charged him
and sent him away at once,
and said to him, "See that you say nothing to anyone,
but go, show yourself to the priest
and offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded, for a proof to them."
But he went out and began to talk freely about it,
and to spread the news,
so that Jesus could no longer openly enter a town,
but was out in desolate places,
and people were coming to him from every quarter.
